2019 Winter Design Trends
Winter trends in 2019 are mixing natural themes with glamorous Art Deco, clean lines and minimalism with cosy living spaces.
Finding this balance isn’t as complicated as it sounds, and was successfully demonstrated in a recent Make Your House A Home furnishing and design project.
Lisa and our MYHAH team were recently engaged to create the interior look and provide furnishings for the dining and living area of a new display home for Lane Housing Co, located in Pippin Grove, Maiden Gully, Bendigo.
After an initial meeting to review the living and dining room dynamics, flow and size, we integrated these considerations to suit the materials used within the build.
2019 winter trend influences included:
TREND 1: SUSTAINABLE AND NATURAL FABRICS
Neutral colours and natural fibres continue to be a designer’s canvas during winter. The linen fabric on the Molmic “Barwon” slip cover sofa adds texture to the living area, and the artisan rug brings warmth and colour to the space.
TREND 2: HUGGE
Pronounced ‘Hoo-ga’: and defined as “taking pleasure from the presence of gentle, soothing things”, this trend of creating a calm and cosy retreat continues and was achieved in the living area and bedroom with the addition of textured cushions and throws.
TREND 3: ART DECO
Art Deco opulence and glamour promotes luxury and rich fabrics. Globe West Daphne Chairs in the dining room, a circular ottoman by Furnish in the living area and an upholstered bedhead in the master bedroom were all covered in a navy velvet fabric, complimenting another stunning colour of the season, jade green which was incorporated via artwork and lamp in the entry.
TREND 4: MINIMALISM AND CLEAN LINES
The simplicity of decor and lots of open space has been achieved by paring back decor items and keeping bench spaces clear. Avoiding bulky design in areas such as stool bases creates a look and feel of extra space and no clutter.

The Lane Housing Co team were clear on the overall direction for the design, moving away from the standard or now common Hamptons/coastal vibe, instead requesting a fresh twist. The Make Your House A Home team then developed the brief to ensure the winter trends were also included.
‘We love working with Lisa and the team at MYHAH as they are able to run with our styling brief and add their own expertise and flair to provide a range of interior design and furnishing options for us in order to enhance our original concept and deliver an amazing outcome.
The display home is exactly as we visualised and we are very proud of the finished product and thank Lisa and the team at MYHAH for their assistance.’ - Nikki Drummond
