Our cowhides are made of 100% natural hide and are sized between 3-4m2. Due to the natural and unique characteristics of this product, there might be minor differences in colour, texture, and size from the image displayed. Additionally, slight imperfections such as marks or discolouration may occur naturally in these hides.

ABOUT OUR HIDES

ETHICALLY SOURCED: All our cowhides are sourced as by-products from the food industry. This means the whole animal is used instead of parts being discarded. 

ORIGIN: Our cowhides are all sourced from Brazil, best known as premium producers of quality leather and hide products over many years. Brazilian hides, mostly farmed in the south of the country, are known to be of excellent quality and more durable than other global supply sources due to contributing factors such as favourable climate, stronger cattle breeds and their unique tanning processes. 

THE TANNING PROCESS: Our Brazilian hides are tanned using the chrome tanning process – an extensive, multi-step process taking considerable time from start to finish. The full tanning and finishing process in our tanneries usually takes around 15 days to ensure that the finished product doesn’t curl and stays supple, laying beautifully flat on the floor for years to come. This tanning process results in a quality hide far superior to other lower-priced hides on the market.

OUR SOURCING METHODS: Our supplier collaborates closely with the tannery to meticulously pick out each hide, guaranteeing that only the highest quality hides are shipped every single time.

Enjoy free domestic metro shipping in VIC, NSW, QLD, SA, TAS on all online rug orders over $999 from BAYA. POA for WA, NT and remote/rural addresses. Shipping times are estimated between 2-14 business days depending on your location. (Please note we do not send to PO boxes or locker boxes).

Most deliveries should arrive within 7-10 business days after your shipping confirmation email is received.

Return Policy

If your item arrives damaged in transit – please contact us through our contact details found at the bottom of our website and we can discuss options to rectify the situation for you.

You are not expected to examine the goods while the courier waits, however if you notice that the packaging is damaged or crushed please note it on the couriers paperwork you are asked to sign.

If your item is faulty please contact us within 3 days to obtain a return authorisation to return the item for a replacement or refund.

We do not accept returns under the following circumstances:

- You have mistreated your item resulting in damage
- Natural wear and tear caused after delivery
- Change of mind

Care Instructions

Spot clean any spills immediately with a clean white cloth, using a small amount of lukewarm water. Gently dab at the mark, never rub. If removing tough stains such as red wine or tomato sauce, use a clean white cloth dipped in soda water. This neutralises acids, odours and helps to remove any residual colour.

Dry the area as quickly as possible by placing the hide in a breezy or warm and dry area of the house. If the size of your hide allows, it can also be laid over a clothes rack, out of direct sunlight.

Do not wash - this causes the natural leather to dry out and become brittle. Do not dry-clean or bleach.

Light vacuum regularly with upholstery attachment of a vacuum cleaner. Avoid using a brush head when vacuuming. Shake your hide outside to remove dust and dirt. For extreme soiling or staining, a professional cleaner that specialises in natural hides should be consulted.

Cowhides are for indoor use only. Avoid using in damp areas such as basements, bathrooms and kitchens. Keep away from sharp objects, hot surfaces and excess moisture.

Regular foot traffic or sunlight may fade or wear certain areas of your hide. Rotate your cowhide half-yearly to ensure even wear.

We recommend using an anti-slip floor rug underlay to help prevent slipping and creeping of your hide. This also aids in prolonging the life of your hide. We recommend Furtex Rug Master.
